I am sad to hear of my old tabla teacher’s passing. I had not seen him for many years and was hoping to visit him this year and pay the respect of a student to his teacher. I have been working in the UK since 1990 after completing my degrees. I have never forgotten the great gift he hd presented me and I had returned to playing several years ago and as fate would have it started playing the darbuka – which he had with the Teng ensemble.
I saw him once at Zouk in the early 90s and then again in London at a Singapore cultural mission. He is very much part of what I am today and it is difficult to say something that would be enough to what he had given me.
